The UPS Store Won't Tell You What a Passport Photo Costs Until You're There

Most pages about UPS Store passport photos open with a price. This one cannot, because The UPS Store does not publish one.

Not on the corporate service page, which carries no dollar amount anywhere. Not on the individual store pages, which say “Contact us to get started.” Both checked on 2026-09-09. The stores are independently owned franchises and each owner sets their own rates, so there is no national number to look up, and any figure quoted online is one store on one day.

An earlier version of this page said $11.99 to $13.99. That range could not be sourced and has been removed rather than refreshed.

What you can find out before you go

The things that are true chain-wide, from their own pages:

• More than 5,600 locations. Our previous figure of 4,700 was wrong.
• Online appointment scheduling at more than 3,900 of them, though the store sampled says walk-ins are fine.
• They follow the recommended US passport photo requirements, and print international sizes too, so a visa photo at a different spec is the same visit.
• They can ship the finished application.

That last one is easy to skim past and it is the reason to pick them.

The photo is the small part of the errand

A passport application is a photo, some paperwork, and getting the whole package to the right place on time. Drugstore photo counters solve the first third. Their own copy leads with the rest:

So the useful comparison is not their photo against somebody else’s photo. It is one stop against three. If you are renewing by mail with a departure date in the calendar, a place that photographs you, copies your supporting documents, packages the application and hands you a tracking number is doing something a pharmacy cannot do at any price.

The flip side is the thing you cannot plan around. Because each store prices independently, you do not know what the photo costs until you are standing at the counter, and comparing two stores means phoning both. For an errand people usually do once every ten years, that is a real friction, and it is worth knowing before you drive.

Bringing your own photo

If the shipping is what you want from them, the photo does not have to be.

One Dollar Passport Photo costs $1. Upload a picture, the background is replaced and the frame is cropped to the 2x2 specification, and you see the result watermarked before paying. What comes back is a sheet of six compliant photos plus the digital file for online renewal. Take that with you and the counter visit is just the shipping. Being straight about the limits: The UPS Store publishes no per-print rate either, so this route cannot be costed end to end the way it can at a drugstore that lists its print prices. And you are the photographer, which is exactly the part a staffed counter takes off your hands. If you are not confident about that, or the application matters more than the fifteen dollars, have them take it.

There is also no published guarantee. We could not find terms saying what happens if a photo taken in store is rejected: no payout, no proof standard, no deadline. That is not evidence there is nothing behind the counter promise, but it does mean it is worth asking in the store rather than assuming. The same question, asked across every service that advertises a guarantee, is the more useful comparison.
