PhotoAiD Compared: $13.95, a 200% Guarantee, and Optional Retouching

PhotoAiD is one of the larger online passport photo services, operating in around forty locales from Białystok, Poland. Its headline is a 200% money-back guarantee: if authorities reject your photo, you get the price back plus another 100%.

This page sets out what the $13.95 includes and what the terms say, checked against their own pages on 8 September 2026, next to the other common ways of getting the same photo.

Two rows are worth expanding, because they are where the differences actually sit.

The bonus and the base refund follow different rules

The refund of the price behaves normally. Section 4 of their Returns and Refunds regulations: “Any monetary refund of the Product will be made in the same form of payment used when purchasing the Product.”

The bonus does not. Section 5, headed Bonus Return: “All refunds of payments above the amount representing the price of the Product will be made only through PayPal or to an account held in a Polish bank.”

For a US buyer with a PayPal account, that is a detail. For one without, the extra 100% has no stated route, while the base refund is unaffected either way. It is worth knowing which of those you are before the guarantee is part of why you chose them.

Section 5 also sets the proof standard: a refund “is possible only upon presentation of a reliable document confirming the rejection of the photo by the competent authority.” That means paperwork from the agency rather than a screenshot of a rejection screen. Some visa centres issue such a document on request; others tell applicants to resubmit without putting anything in writing.

One more clause people do not expect. Because each photo is made to order, section 2 states “the Buyer may not withdraw from the contract of sale,” so there is no ordinary right to change your mind.

Set against that, the policy is genuinely more structured than most competitors publish: complaints get a decision inside 14 days, the process is free to the buyer, and there is a named escalation route through Polish consumer mediation. Several services on the table above publish no terms at all.

What the expert review adjusts

PhotoAiD’s human review is included rather than an add-on, and it runs 24/7, which is more than we offer at any price. Their How It Works page describes it as the step that ensures photos meet government regulations, “reinforcing our 200% money-back guarantee.”

The same section lists what the experts adjust:

• Minimizing dark circles under the eyes
• Tidying up single stray hairs
• Eliminating small blemishes from the lens or scanner

The first two change your face rather than the framing or background. The State Department’s instruction is not to change a photo using computer software, phone apps or filters, or artificial intelligence, and its one explicit note about backgrounds objects to cropping that “changes the outline of your head, face, and neck.”

Whether a given retouch causes a rejection is not something anyone can state as fact, and this page will not pretend otherwise. What can be said is that it is a category the rules name, it is bundled into the review rather than offered as a switch, and it is the kind of thing worth deciding on deliberately rather than discovering afterwards.

Where the $1 route fits

One Dollar Passport Photo costs $1. Upload a photo, the background is replaced and the frame is cropped to the 2x2 inch US specification, and the finished result is visible watermarked before payment. The guarantee behind it is the smallest on the table and the easiest to claim: proof by screenshot, email or official notice, refunded to the original payment method within three business days. It also excludes rejections caused by user error, such as choosing the wrong document type or starting from a poor source photo, which is a condition of the same kind as London Drugs’ “quality reasons”.

PhotoAiD is the better purchase if you want a person to check the photo before you submit it and would rather that were included rather than a $4.99 extra, or if you need one of the many documents and locales they cover and we do not. The honest summary is that they sell more service and we sell less at a lower price, and the guarantee difference is about how easily each one can be claimed rather than which pays more.
