How to prepare
Sort these before your appointment and the photo passes first time.
- Wearing glasses — All glasses and sunglasses must be removed, even prescription glasses you wear to drive
- Smiling or wrong expression — Must have neutral expression with mouth closed, no teeth showing
- Face obscured by hair — Hair must not cover your face, especially eyes and eyebrows
- Wrong background — Background must be plain light grey without patterns, shadows, or dark colours
- Head not centred — Face must be straight-on looking directly at camera, not tilted or turned
- Wearing non-religious headwear — Only religious or cultural head coverings are permitted
