What you get
Digital photo $1
413×531px JPG
Print sheet in the $5 pack
Multiple photos, 4×6
Works for all 29 Schengen countries
The same 35x45mm photo for every one.
Includes the 4 non-EU members (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland). Ireland is EU but not Schengen, so it is not covered here.
What a compliant photo needs
One standard, set by the European Commission, used by all 29 countries.
Glasses are allowed if the eyes stay clear, no reflection, no tint. They are not banned.
White or grey both pass. "France refuses white" is a myth, France's consulate states white.
The same photo for tourist, work, and study visas
Whichever Schengen visa you apply for, the photo is identical. The visa type changes the paperwork, not the picture.
Tourism, business, family visit
Up to 90 days in any 180. Standardised EU-wide by the Visa Code.
Work, study, residence
Over 90 days, issued by each country. Same ICAO photo as type C.
Where you apply, country by country
The photo is the same in every country. What changes is which office takes your application (VFS Global, BLS International, a consulate, or your local town hall) and what each country names its long-stay visas.
| Country | Where you file | Long-stay visa names |
|---|---|---|
| 🇩🇪 Germany | VFS Global | Residence permit, EU Blue Card |
| 🇫🇷 France | France-Visas, then VFS / TLScontact | VLS-TS, Passeport Talent |
| 🇮🇹 Italy | Consulate or VFS / iVisa | Nulla Osta work, study visa |
| 🇪🇸 Spain | BLS International | Non-lucrative, work, student |
| 🇳🇱 Netherlands | VFS Global or Dutch embassy | MVV, highly skilled migrant |
| 🇧🇪 Belgium | Commune, or VFS / consulate abroad | Single Permit, student visa |
| 🇵🇹 Portugal | Consulate or VFS; AIMA in-country | D7, D8, Golden Visa |
France checks the photo twice (upload, then counter). The Netherlands holds the visa to the EU standard, looser than its strict domestic fotomatrix.
Your photo stays with you
No accounts, no tracking, no strings. Your photo is yours alone, we never store it, share it, or use it for anything but making your visa photo.

Common questions
Does the same photo work for a work or study visa?
Yes. A long-stay (type D) work, study, or residence visa uses the same ICAO photo as a short-stay (type C) tourist visa. The visa type changes the application, not the photo.
Are the requirements the same for every country?
Yes. The photo standard is identical across all 29 Schengen states. What differs is only the filing route (consulate directly, or a centre like VFS Global, BLS International or TLScontact).
Can I wear glasses?
Yes. The EU rule allows ordinary prescription glasses as long as your eyes are clearly visible with no reflection, no tint, and frames that do not cover the eyes. If you cannot get a glare-free shot, take them off.
How recent does the photo need to be?
Within the last 6 months, and it must look like you do now. If you have changed your hair, grown or shaved a beard, or your appearance has shifted, take a fresh one even if an older photo is under 6 months old.
Can I take it with my phone?
Yes. A phone camera has plenty of resolution. The two things that matter are even lighting and a plain light background, then the photo is cropped to 35x45mm with your face filling 70-80% of the frame. Upload the shot here and that cropping is done for you.
How many photos do I need?
Usually two identical photos per application, though the exact count is set by the consulate or visa centre. Print a couple of extras.
