How to prepare
Sort these before your appointment and the photo passes first time.
- Wearing glasses — Glasses must be removed for Irish driving licence photos, even prescription glasses
- Wrong photo size — Must be 35×45mm (minimum) to 38×50mm (maximum), the standard EU biometric format
- Non-plain background — Background must be plain white, light grey, or cream with no patterns or objects
- Photo too old — Must be taken within the last 6 months showing your current appearance
- Face not fully visible — Hair covering eyes, head tilted, or face obscured will cause rejection
- Wrong expression — Must have neutral expression with mouth closed, no smiling
