Wrong background color — Background must be plain white. Blue, grey, or backgrounds with shadows are rejected.
Wrong photo size — Must be 32×26mm. Photos in US 2×2 inch format or other sizes may be rejected.
Face not fully visible — The full face oval (eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, chin) must be clearly visible.
Wearing sunglasses — Sunglasses or tinted lenses are not allowed. Prescription glasses must have clear lenses.
Glasses reflections — If wearing glasses, the lenses must not have flash reflections or glare.
Photo too old — Photo must be recent and reflect your current appearance.

What size is a Spanish DNI photo?
32×26mm (3.2×2.6cm). This is the official size required by the Ministry of Interior. Photos sized 30×40mm or 35×45mm may also be accepted if proportional.
Can I wear glasses in my Spanish DNI photo?
Yes, prescription glasses with clear lenses are allowed, but the lenses must not have reflections and the frames cannot cover your eyes. Sunglasses or tinted lenses are not permitted.
Is the Spanish DNI photo the same size as the passport photo?
No. The Spanish DNI uses 32×26mm format, while the Spanish passport uses the European 35×45mm biometric format. They are different sizes.
Can I wear a head covering in my DNI photo?
Only for documented religious or medical reasons. The full face oval must remain visible from the hairline to the chin.
How many photos do I need for DNI renewal?
Only one photo is required since the 2005 regulation change (Real Decreto 1553/2005). Previously two photos were needed.
