Do I need to submit a new photo for my Finnish driving licence?
Not always. If you have a valid passport or identity card issued after 1.1.2013, your photo is already in Traficom's system and can be used. You only need a new photo if you don't have one on file or want to update your appearance.
Can I wear glasses in my Finnish driving licence photo?
It's not recommended. While technically allowed, the criteria for glasses are extremely strict — no reflections, frames can't be too close to eyes, and can't be tinted. The official makes the final decision and may reject photos with glasses.
What background color is required for the Finnish driving licence photo?
A light grey background is required, similar to Finnish passport photo requirements. This differs from some countries that require pure white backgrounds.
How long is my photo valid for the driving licence application?
A new photo must be taken within the last 6 months. However, if your photo is already in Traficom's system from a valid passport or identity card, that photo remains valid as long as the original document is valid.
Can I submit my photo digitally for a Finnish driving licence?
No. For driving licence applications, photos must be submitted as 2 printed paper copies. Electronic photos cannot be sent directly to Traficom by the applicant. Only photos already in the police/Traficom system can be used digitally.
