Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Emirates ID alternative format with grey background?
Some photo services and applications accept a 35x45mm photo with a light grey background instead of white. However, the official ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security) requirement specifies white background. Use this format only if specifically requested.
What size is this alternative Emirates ID photo?
The photo size is 35mm x 45mm (3.5cm x 4.5cm), the same as the standard Emirates ID format. Only the background color differs from the official white background requirement.
Should I use grey or white background for my Emirates ID?
The official ICP requirement is a white background. We recommend using white for Emirates ID applications unless a specific service or organization requests the grey background variant.
Can I wear glasses in my Emirates ID photo?
Yes, medical glasses are permitted as long as they don't obscure your eyes or cause light reflections. Sunglasses, tinted glasses, and colored contact lenses are not allowed.
Can I wear a headscarf or head covering?
Yes, head coverings are permitted for religious beliefs or national dress (including traditional Emirati attire). Your face must remain fully visible from the bottom of your chin to the top of your forehead.
How is this different from the standard Emirates ID photo?
The only difference is the background color. This alternative uses a light grey background (#D3D3D3) while the official Emirates ID photo requires a white background (#FFFFFF). All other specifications remain the same: 35x45mm size, neutral expression, recent photo.
